Transition from a Department to the School of Global Journalism and Communication Studies
Baltimore, MD- Morgan State University has appointed DeWayne Wickham to establish a School of Global Communication. Morgan State has a department of communications studies which hopes to finalize its transition into a school in the early summer season. Work on restructuring the department into a School of Global Communication has already begun.
DeWayne Wickham is excited and honored to have the opportunity to create the School of Global Communication. DeWayne Wickham is quoted as saying “This new school was approved by Morgan's board in 2008, and the university is now moving to bring it into existence. Morgan has given me the honor of conceptualizing this school and serving as its founding dean."
The Transition from the Department of Communication studies to the School of Global Communication is an exciting change not only for the staff of the current department but also for the students. DeWayne Wickham has many ideas that he wants to implement for the new school. DeWayne Wickham states that, “We’re going to merge learning with practice by offering students a seamless transition from the classroom to the real-life world of journalism and mass communication.”
About Dewayne Wickham
During his journalism career, Wickham has worked for US News & World Report, The (Baltimore) Sun, WBAL-TV, CBS News, BET and USA Today, where he has written a syndicated column since 1985. The author of four books, Wickham is a founding member and former president of the National Association of Black Journalists. Prior to coming to Morgan State University, DeWayne Wickham was the Distinguished Professor of Journalism and chair of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at North Carolina A&T State University.
