DEWAYNE WICKHAM: SCHOOL OF GLOBAL JOURNALISM & COMMUNICATION STUDIES
Wickham, now Chairman of the Department of Communication has been assigned to implement the new vision for the new Communications school.
BALTIMORE, MD – DeWayne Wickham, the newly appointed Chair of the Department of Communication has been assigned to lead in the renovation of the school of communications. His plans not only include establishing a School of Global Journalism and Communication Studies, but also to make the school more “dynamic, interactive and focused” (Chair’s Letter). He wants to offer the students a great and exciting classroom experience.
The vision for the new school is compared to that of the residence program for nurses and doctors. While learning, his desire is that students have a more hands-on experience, actually putting their education to use, even before graduating. He claims that this is the new trend for journalism and mass communication, making the transition from school to work effortless.
DeWayne Wickham, a founder and past president of the National Association for Black Journalists, began his journalism career in 1973. During his career, he has worked for US News & World Report, The Baltimore Sun, WBAL-TV, CBS News, BET and USA Today. Prior to Morgan State University, he has taught at Deleware State University, University of Pennsylvania
